It’s Turkey Day Eve everybody! How excited is everyone for a massive amount of food? A brief survey at the A-List HQ revealed that we’re all about the carbs—stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy…yummm. No offense to the turkey lovers out there.
Food aside, part of Thanksgiving is braving the crazy travel conditions both in the air and on the roads. It always seems that it takes double the time to get anywhere than normal, so in an effort to help you kill time, or if you just want to relax once you get home, we’ve compiled a list of must-reads over the break time. Trust us, these are totally worth the read, especially if you’re a fan of some of our favorites like the Hunger Games or Pride and Prejudice.
*If you’re a fan of Downton Abbey & Vanity Fair…are you missing the grandeur of Lady and Lord Grantham’s life? Wondering what happened to Reese Witherspoon in Vanity Fair? Read about Cora, an American Heiress who leaves the East Coast to find herself a man, and a title, in England. It captures all the romance and intrigue of early 20th century England…and the clothes they describe! *Swoon*
Honorable Mentions: Rutherford Park by Elizabeth Cooke, The Fortune Hunter also by Daisy Goodwin, & The Passing Bells by Phillip Rock
*If you’re a fan of Harry Potter & the Brothers Grimm…so not only do we recommend The Tales of Beedle the Bard by the genius J.K Rowling, we highly encourage a trip to the movie theater this weekend to watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Anyways, focusing on the star here, Beedle the Bard takes you inside the Wizarding World’s fairytales, folklore and myth and gives you some insight into the Deathly Hallows. A nice, quick read that will have you craving more.
Honorable Mentions: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, & The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman
*If you’re a fan of the Hunger Games & the Bachelor…Honestly, all of us at A-List are pretty obsessed with this series right now. Follow America, a seventeen year old musician from a lower social circle, who is “Selected” to compete for the love of the royal prince and heir to the throne of a dystopian United States. A complete page turner…and a five part series that will keep you busy throughout break!
Honorable Mentions: Matched by Allie Condie, Reboot by Amy Tintera, & Delirium by Lauren Oliver
*If you’re a fan of Pride and Prejudice & Bridget Jones’ Diary…Welcome to Austenland, a non-traditional theme park where Jane Austen lovers can be fully submersed into fictitious Georgian England. Jane, a New Yorker, travels to Austenland in an attempt to bring her Mr. Darcy obsession to life…but alas, there’s always a surprise in store at Austenland. A fun, easy read that will have you grinning sheepishly from ear to ear.
Honorable Mentions: Midnight in Austenland also by Shannon Hale, Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld, & A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff
*If you’re a fan of Divergent & The Handmaid’s Tale…Violet with violet eyes is a surrogate meant to be auctioned off to a member of the royalty or nobility in order to bear their heirs and children. They reside in the Jewel, the richest, most closed off part of the Lone City; as Violet begins her residency in the Palace of the Lake, she discovers her powers meant for surrogacy are actually meant for something much larger than herself and the nobility. An intricate story but with compelling details…and also a series!
Honorable Mentions: Birthmarked by Caragh O’Brien, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, & The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
