Being a leader in your sorority can mean many things. Maybe you’re the outspoken leader who applies for every position and volunteers as often as you can. Or maybe you are the silent leader, leading by example and living every day by your chapter’s values. Either way, you are a valuable member making a difference.

Being a leader in your sorority brings you an entirely new perspective and love for your chapter. You are instantly connected to your chapter in a way you never knew you could be and it will forever hold a special place in your heart. When you take on a leadership role, you are no longer simply part of your sorority, but it becomes a part of you. Everything in life is what you make it, so if you’re craving a leadership role in your sorority, go for it! Be confident that what you have to offer is meaningful and important, whether that is leading as your chapter’s president or challenging your leadership skills in another way.
When joining my chapter, I was very unsure of the role I would play. It wasn’t until my second semester that I completely fell in love with my sorority. At this time, I knew I wanted to get involved, but had no idea to the extent I would. When people first began telling me I would one day be the President of my chapter, I looked at them like they were crazy and told them there was no way I would EVER do that… not necessarily because of lack of desire but rather a lack of confidence in my ability to lead such a strong, powerful group of women. With enough support from my sisters, I challenged myself the most I ever had, believing in myself because I knew my sisters believed in me. It was at that moment that I began living by the phrase: “If it doesn’t scare you, you won’t grow and learn from it”. It scared me all right, but I was willing and ready to step out of my comfort zone. Before I knew it, I was leading my chapter as President.
If you decide to be a leader in your chapter by taking on a director or VP position, you will embark on one of the most challenging yet rewarding journeys of your sorority life. Over the next year, you will be pushed to limits you didn’t know you had and will truly grow into the leader you never realized you could become. Any leader will have her fair share of struggles and triumphs, and I am confident you will rise above and lead your chapter to success and happiness. There will be times of stress, frustration, and tears, but through it all, believe in yourself and know you are the best person for this job. Your sisters believed in you for a reason, so be your truest most authentic self and you will be bound to lead passionately and successfully!
Girl, it’s your time to shine! We are so proud of you already and can’t wait to see all you accomplish! Work hard, stay humble, and be kind to yourself and your team. You are more than capable and you have a chapter full of women who are ready to stand by your side through it all.
